I am not going to lie. This is not a real VU Meter. You need to dial it in to whatever source you are using to approximate what the VU should show but it is never going to be perfect
Where it does excel is with a purpose behind the purchase. Well part from looking retro and cool it has a very important function, at least for me.
I am well aware that I might eventually start on building a CD collection too. The problem being that I don’t like CD playback through my preferred system for vinyl playback. The speakers are fine but I am not a fan of the amps and preamp for running a CD transport in. Everything is so clean. Too Clean.
This box is great though if, like me, you intend to buy a CD transport, a DAC and another amp (in my case valve to make the CD playback warmer). This little box allows amp switching with you existing speakers (as well as speaker switching). I can now run my preferred set up for vinyl with no compromises whilst having a totally alternate set up for CD playback, without having to have another listening space or framing more speakers into my tiny room.
