I am getting a little haphazard in my process of filling these pages. At the time of writing this post I have hardly had any time to write reviews of records but somehow still find time to keep buying records. I had less than 70 records when I started this project but, as of today, am up to 221!!! It seems I am buying and listening faster than I can review. On to the write up.
Madonna is I suppose an acquired taste. I never really liked her in my youth but, as time goes on, you realise a lot of her tracks would need to feature in the soundtrack of your life.
I initially purchased this box set from a favourite store of mine but, sadly the cookie algorithm then spat it out on Amazon for £50 less. I am a big fan of supporting the local record stores but 50 notes is enough for a decent amount of crate digging bargains so I sold my soul for this one.
The set features slightly more modern remixes of the original tracks whilst retaining a lot, if no all, of the character from the original release. There seem to be some influences here, notably vinyl 1 almost feels a bit like Prince with some of the rifts that feature.
Each album moves you through the years so this plays very much like a history lesson for Madonnas back catalogue.
There is not a lot else I can say about the music. It is all of the aforementioned number one records. Anyone over 50 years old will know every single track on this boxset. Those younger might need to start an LP in or so to really hit their period but this boxset will certainly evoke emotions for many.
There is a final thought here. I have not had to clean this boxset at all. No manual clean, no spin clean, no vacuum clean and no ultrasonic section. All part of my process for getting the best out of crate finds. In fact, this is the best sounding collection of records I have ever heard for their sonic clarity. The pressings are awesome, the sound is no compressed at all and there is zero surface noise. In so many ways these sound like a Blu Ray album that has been mastered perfectly. Even if you are not a fan of the artist, you will get a kick out of hearing just how perfect and clear vinyl can sound when done right. The whole boxset has been done right.
